The Wayans brothers have announced that they will be returning to the Scary Movie franchise.
Marlon, Shawn and Keenen Ivory Wayans will once again take the reigns of the film franchise which they launched back in 2000. A parody franchise that poked fun at horror and slasher films, Scary Movie broke box office records in its heyday and offered talent like Anna Faris and Regina Hall major movie roles.
Creative differences however meant that the Scary Movie franchise continued without the Wayans brothers for every release after Scary Movie 2.
On the news, Marlon, Shawn and Keenen Wayans said to Deadline, “We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the new Scary Movie and work with each other again. This is a franchise we created more than 20 years ago. We remember people laughing in the aisles and hope to see that happen again. We look forward to working with Jonathan Glickman and his team at the new Miramax to bring these laughs to theaters, where they belong. It’s a double reunion.”
This month has been busy for the Wayans family, with Damon Wayans and his son Damon Wayans Jr. launching their new father/son sitcom Poppa’s House. Damon Wayans previously starred and created cult classic sitcom My Wife & Kids.
