A competitor in a video game tournament in Jacksonville, Florida has fatally shot two other gamers, and injured several others, according to authorities.

The gunman, who police believe is 24-year-old David Katz, is said to have used one handgun during the incident.

The Madden NFL 19 tournament took place in GLHF Game Bar on Sunday afternoon before shots were fired at the event.

Footage of the tournament was being live-streamed on Twitch when a round of gunshots erupted. Police are investigating an online video which shows the moments right before the shooting.

After fatally shooting the two victims, Katz killed himself before police arrived to the scene. Eleven other people were injured but their conditions are not though to be life-threatening.

According to reports, Katz had become angry after losing at Sunday’s tournament.

One of the competitors in attendance took to Twitter to describe the scenes at the GLHF bar. “I am literally so lucky” Drini Gjoka wrote, “The bullet hit my thumb”.

The mayor of Jacksonville has reacted to the shooting. He said: “We have faced an occurrence that is all too common… One violent crime in our city is one too many.

“Pray for Jacksonville as we deal with this senseless tragedy”.

The shooting is one of many in Florida in recent times.
