The University of Exeter, begin an investigation after claims of racism amongst their Law Society group chat “Bracton Law” were exposed via social media.

After gaining confidence after seeing Ruu – a Nottingham student who made her claims against individuals chanting racist remarks outside her Nottingham Trent accommodation doors – the Exeter student who exposed the vile and unethical remarks that were discussed within the societies group chat claim to have reported the incident to student unions and head of departments within the university.

After gaining major online support, the university finally addressed the issue, stating that, “Incident of this nature should not, and will not be tolerated and we are committed to eradicating any form of discrimination or harassment, wherever it may appear.”

The Brackton Law Society itself also took to social media to address the matter commenting, “We have taken the decision to remove those involved from the committee… and indefinitely ban all those involved from the society.”

It’s safe to say that despite the idea that casual racism within university is no longer exists various incidents such as the one above and Ruu’s story which we covered last week, showcase that the casual racism still exists within universities and more needs to be done in order to ensure a safe environment for students all over the country to study in.

Be sure to check out the full story above; you can read  Ruu’s story on her racist experience at Nottingham Trent on GRM Daily too.
