YouTube just changed the game on making money from videos

Two years after its inception, YouTube sought for a way to monetise the thousands of hours of content that people were uploading onto the site.

In 2007 they set up the YouTube Partner Programme. Once you became a partner, Youtube would then put adverts onto your videos, thus allowing the content creator as well as Youtube themselves to gain revenue from the uploads.

In the years since the YPP (YouTube Partner Programme) was set up, the number of videos being uploaded and channels being created has grown exponentially. Unfortunately not all these channels and uploads have been genuine. Many channels attempt to frequently upload content that they don’t own and this has meant that in some cases they’ve been taking potential earnings away from the original content creators.

To combat this problem YouTube have now changed the minimum view count threshold for channels that wish to monetize their content. Now the channel has to have attained at least 10,000 views if they wish to partner with YouTube.

This new threshold is designed to give enough information for Youtube to ensure the authenticity of the channel and its content and also be low enough to not discourage burgeoning content creators.
