A golden statue depicting Kanye West as Jesus has magically popped on up on Hollywood Boulevard. Looks like some people are taking this “Yeezus” thing very seriously.

The piece was created by renowned LA based street artist Plastic Jesus and is entitled “False Idol”. At first glance it may seem like the piece is ripping on Yeezy, but it’s actually more of a comment on how the public treats artists in the 21st century. Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, Plastic Jesus said Kanye is “a genius at writing and producing but he’s not a God, and that’s where we put him. Until there’s an issue in his life or a hiccup in his career, then we crucify him.”

When The Life of Pablo dropped just over a year ago, it seemed to elevate Kanye to a God-like level. He was the most accomplished rap artist of our time with the hottest girl on his arm. Inevitably, this resulted in a downfall, spurring from his wife being robbed in Paris and a subsequent mental breakdown – which saw him being sectioned. Suddenly the rapper everyone respected became the mess that everyone took the p-ss out of.

Speaking about how the public turned on Kanye, Plastic Jesus went on to say “The piece is as critical of us as consumers as it is of Kanye himself.”
