Yesterday, a US judge ruled against the motion to release songstress Kesha from her deal with Sony after she accused Dr Luke, a producer she is contracted to work with exclusively, of forcing her to snort drugs, take “sober pills” and also of raping her.

The “Timber” singer broke down into tears at the hearing which sparked a surge of social media responses. At the time of writing this, “#FreeKesha” is trending on Twitter, with many using the case as an example of rape cases going against case-victims.

The case, filed originally in 2014, has highlighted a huge problem in the US, whereby rape is one of the nation’s most under-reported crimes. This problem is not just exclusive to the US, though. In the UK, only 15% of people who have been subject to sexual violence have reported their case to the police. Statistics like these, as can be read here are the backbone to this Ke$ha case.

Sure, many people feel for the singer/songwriter just as I do, but Ke$ha now has a chance to stand up for hundreds of thousands of people that have similar stories to hers, but are too scared to come forward.

The ruling is ultimately a disgusting one, if Ke$ha’s claims are true, as Ke$ha will now be forced to see out her contract with Sony by making them the 6 albums promised in her contract.

Watch this space, as I can’t see this story losing relevance for a long-time, with developments sure to happen in the near future.
