After being pushed back a few months, Eurostar has now announced its direct trains from Amsterdam to London will launch on October 26.
The high-speed rail service had been scheduled to start towards the end of April but was pushed back due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Since 2018, the train operator began to offer a route between London and Amsterdam but passengers returning to London have been made to take a quick pitstop at Brussels for passport and security checks.
However, from October 26, passengers will be able to travel direct to and from London St Pancras and Amsterdam Centraal.
Eurostar have said the new journey time to London is just over four hours from Amsterdam (4h 9m) and three and a half hours from Rotterdam (3h 29m).
Speaking on the new direct service earlier this year, Eurostar’s Chief Executive Mike Cooper said:”Our services from the UK to the Netherlands have proved very popular with over half a million travellers since launch.
“Our fully direct service marks an exciting advance for high-speed rail and provides consumers with a comfortable, environmentally friendly alternative to the airlines on one of Europe’s busiest leisure and business routes.”
He added: “It’s a huge market, 4.3 million air market at the moment. What’s interesting is that there’s a precise parallel to when we started Paris back in 1994, it was the same size air market, and look what’s developed since.
“We think it’s going to be a hugely credible alternative to flying and a sustainable alternative to flying as well.”
Tickets will be priced at £40 each way and will be available to purchase from September 1.
The announcement of the launch of Eurostar’s direct service comes after the UK government removed the Netherlands from its list of countries people can travel without having to quarantine once they return.
Travellers arriving back in the UK from the Netherlands after August 15 have to self-isolate for 14 days under coronavirus safety measures.
