As coronavirus’ reach continues to grow, the virus’ impact is also spreading.
It has now been announced that one of the world’s biggest music festivals, Coachella, has been postponed due to coronavirus.
The Californian festival was set to take place next month, but has now been pushed back to October, with festival organisers hoping to feature the same acts that were originally on the line-up.
The festival released a statement via Twitter, informing those with tickets to Coachella on the new dates, as well as information on how to receive a refund.
Coronavirus is also effecting events here in the UK as it was also announced that the Arsenal Vs Manchester City game, which was due to take place tonight (March 11) has also been postposed as a “precautionary measure”.
The news comes after it was revealed a number of Arsenal players met the Olympiacos owner Evangelos Marinakis, who has recently contracted coronavirus.
Although the risk of the players developing the virus is “extremely low”, the teams are following Government guidelines which “recommend that anyone coming into close contact with someone with the virus should self-isolate at home for 14 days from the last time they had contact.”
Because some players are unavailable, the Premier League has decided to postpone the Arsenal Vs Man City game.
Elsewhere in the UK, the number of those being diagnosed with coronavirus is steadily growing – with the health minister and Conservative MP, Nadine Dorries, recently revealing she has also tested positive. She has since announced she has been self-isolating at home to reduce the risk of spreading the virus.
Out of over 380 reported cases in the UK, six people have died from coronavirus at present.
The NHS has unveiled plans to scale up its capacity for testing people for the infection. At current, 1500 people are being tested per day but the NHS is looking to expand that number to 10,000.
