The world champion boxer Errol Spence has been left in a critical condition after being involved in a high speed car crash where he was pulled from his Ferrari.
The welterweight champ was found to have not been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, but still continued to emerge rom his car despite it being “flipped multiple times”.
With the crash occurring in the Dallas area, police have confirmed that the accident happened around 3am on Wednesday (October 9), with it being said that the boxer is in intensive care, however luckily not being in a life-threatening condition.The 29-year-old father of two was the only person found in the car, and was seen in a bar in Dallas on Instagram in the early hours of the morning.
A police statement has read: “At 2:35am a Ferrari travelling at a high rate of speed northbound in the 500 S. Riverfront Blvd. The Ferrari veered left over the centre median onto the southbound lanes and flipped multiple times, ejecting the driver who was not wearing a seatbelt.
“The driver was taken to an area hospital where he is expected to live, but remains in ICU. The driver, a black male 29 years old, was the only occupant in the vehicle. The cause of the accident is undetermined at this time.”
After recently unifying world titles at 147 pounds, he emerged victorious against Shawn Porter, who shared a prayer for his rival.
Porter wrote: “My dad always tells me “this boxing thing is a part of your life but it’s not going to last forever. U still have a lot of life to live after that”. With that, I’m praying for Errol Spence Jr and his family because he has a lot of life to live and I pray he recovers quickly and fully”.
