To celebrate Black History Month, Instagram has launched a new campaign and a number of prominent faces are getting involved!
Titled #ShareBlackStories, the campaign is encouraging Instagram users to pay homage to someone from the black British community who inspires them, shaped their experience as a black Briton and who deserves to be recognised.
Famous names such as J2K and Ashley Walters have supported the campaign, with the former shouting out the Godfather of Grime that is Wiley, while Walters spoke about Walking Dead star Lennie James for believing in him when he started out in the TV/film industry.

George the Poet used #ShareYourStories to praise his parents while Radio 1’s Melvin Odoom got involved with the campaign by paying tribute to the legend that is Will Smith. Journalist Afua Hirsch has also supported the campaign on Instagram.
Speaking on #ShareBlackStories, the Director of Market Operations at Instagram said: “Instagram is a place where diverse communities connect and share things that matter most to them. This is particularly true for the black community, with over 16.6 million people using hashtags like #blackexcellence and #blackgirlmagic.
“We hope more people will be encouraged to follow Ashley and Afua’s lead and share the black stories that are important to them on Instagram – via IGTV, Stories or a post.”
With October just getting started, we can expect to see more influential faces show their support for the campaign throughout Black History Month!
