After six weeks of intense challenges, hard work, graft and exceptional musical performances, the final episode of BBC Three’s The Rap Game UK is here.
Chade Paine, F.O.S, J Lucia, Kiico, Lady Ice and Ransom FA all spent the last few weeks evolving as artists and honing their crafts, and their commendable work all boils down to the decision made in this final episode.
Many will remember the fumbling of lyrics during episode one, the nerves of the artists and their raw talent.
Throughout the competition, Krept, Konan, DJ Target and their carefully selected plethora of guest hosts and mentors including AJ Tracey, NSG, Jaykae, Ghetts and Lady Leshurr all lent a hand in working with the six hopefuls and preparing them for their music industry careers.
In this new and final offering, the artists meet Stefflon Don and the starlet offers the artists advice on performing, gender roles in the industry and how to succeed as an internationally renowned artist.
Steff was recently included on XXL’s infamous Freshman Class list and has collaborated with artists from every inch on the globe including Canada, Jamaica, the USA, Holland and Africa; making the artist the perfect mentor to guide the contestants.
Following their group chat with Steff, the artists each get one on one time with Krept, Konan and Target to seek advice, guidance and confidence.
Krept, Konan and Target praise the contestants and offer them helpful advice on what they need to do to give themselves the best chance to win the competition.
Next, “the most important challenge yet” and “the moment of truth” is set up; the six artists are taken to London where they must perform a track live for Kenny Allstar on his Friday night BBC Radio 1Xtra show.
Kenny Allstar is the “Voice of the Streets” and an iconic figure on the scene that has given a platform to many of the scene’s most prolific artists in the early days of their career. The pressure is therefore on as the artists aim to wow Kenny Allstar and of course the judges.
The competition intensifies with each contestant going hard in the studio in an effort to prove themselves and their talents.
Following their performances, the tracks are played live on Kenny’s radio show and the social media reaction to the tracks is relayed to the artists in real-time.
As the judges watch on, some artists are celebrated via social media, some critiqued and others are not mentioned at all.
After observing and taking this all into account, the judges call Chade Paine, F.O.S, J Lucia, Kiico, Lady Ice and Ransom FA to a meeting where they offer praise for their hard work and artistic development and offer the contestants the opportunity to detail their experience in the competition.
After narrowing it down to a final three, the winner of The Rap Game UK and the coveted Play Dirty Records recording contract is revealed.
