Thanks to revolutionary new technology, your aftershave, toiletries and other liquids will no longer be restricted at UK airports.
The new scanners which borrow technology and engineering from hospital CT scanners will provide an in depth digital look inside of your luggage that can easily be interpreted by security workers. This now means that the restrictive 100ml limit on liquids will no longer be imposed on travellers.
At a price tag of millions of pounds, Heathrow is the first UK airport to invest in the equipment however the government will force all other UK airports including Gatwick, Stansted, Manchester and Luton to all purchase these new machines.
The new scanners are also expected to make airport security checks 50 to 6o times faster.
On the new upgrades, the transport secretary Grant Shapps said, there will be “no more intrusive pulling out your socks and your underwear, having to separate all your liquids and take your laptop out, all that can just stay in the bag and be able to go through”.
The chief executive of Heathrow airport added, “We can detect what liquid is inside a bottle, we can look inside a laptop and see whether it has any dangerous devices inside it, and that allows us to have a much higher level of security on the plane”.
The news comes just as the busy summer holiday season draws to a close.
Travellers will have to wait until December 2022 however to experience the smoother security checks as this is the deadline for all UK airports to have upgraded to the new technology.
