Flying taxis could be upon us very soon as Uber has announced it has plans to begin testing a new service, Uber Air, in 2020.
The announcement was made at the company’s Elevate Summit in Washington, D.C where they revealed Uber Air tests will be launched in Melbourne, Australia next year. The service will also be piloted in U.S. cities Dallas and Los Angeles.
Speaking on the plans, Susan Anderson – who is the head of Uber’s operations in Australia, New Zealand and North Asia – said: “Australian governments have adopted a forward-looking approach to ridesharing and future transport technology.
“This, coupled with Melbourne’s unique demographic and geospatial factors, and culture of innovation and technology, makes Melbourne the perfect third launch city for Uber Air”.
Uber has said it hopes to roll out Uber Air commercially by 2023.
