Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss will be taking their talents to the Star Wars franchise where they will write the next few films.
The news was announced by Disney’s CEO Bob Iger who has confirmed the next Star Wars film – due to be released in 2022 – will be directed by Benioff and Weiss.
The pair are most known for adapting George RR Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire into the massively popular Game of Thrones series and have been praised and awarded for their efforts.
The forthcoming Star Wars film is rumoured to be set around “The Old Republic”.
The announcement of Benioff and Weiss’ involvement in the franchise comes a week after Disney detailed the release dates for the upcoming Star Wars and Avatar films.
