Chicago rapper King Von has passed away after being involved in a shooting in Atlanta.
According to reports, King Von sustained critical injuries after being involved in a shootout in the car park of a nightclub outside Atlanta’s Monaco Hookah Lounge at 3am (local time). Two people were confirmed to have died following the incident and King Von was left in a critical condition at a hospital.
DJ Akademiks and King Von’s best friend DJ On Da Beat have since confirmed the rapper did not survive his injuries.
“It’s with great sadness that I have to confirm that King Von has passed away,” Akademiks wrote on Twitter.
“I spoke with his manager who luckily has survived being shot and is currently recovering in the hospital. However, Von manager did confirm that Von was shot and did not make it. RIP King Von.”
DJ On Da Beat wrote on Instagram: “My heart can’t take this. No bro. Why you. Why bro. Please just FaceTime me bro. Why they had to take you. Ima see you again this shit ain’t over. It’s far from over.
“We still just getting started. RIP my Bestfriend. The only n***a to listen to me word for word from day 1.”
Atlanta Police confirmed the exchange of gunfire between two groups in the car park, adding that officers were also involved.
“That physical altercation escalated into an exchange of gunfire with those groups,” Atlanta police Deputy Chief Timothy Peek said of the incident.
“Two police officers who were working at that particular club, or lounge, noticed the altercation and engaged some of the people involved.
“There was an exchange of gunfire with police as well.”
King Von’s passing comes a week after he released his album, Welcome To O Block, which includes features from Fivio Foreign, Polo G, Lil Durk and more.
