In the latest issue of bad Covid-19 news, Boris Johnson has announced tighter Christmas restrictions and a new tier.
With the South East of England being hit by a new “mutant” strain of Covid-19 which appears to spread faster and is up to 70 per cent more transmissible, South East areas such as London, Kent, Essex and Bedfordshire will be put into tier four.
Tier four will see the closure of hairdressers, barbers, nail salons, non essential retail, gyms and leisure facilities.
A stay-at-home order will be issued and travel will only be allowed for work and education.
Previous Christmas bubble plans have now been scrapped and the three household mixing limit has been cut from five days to just the Christmas Day bank holiday.
The restrictions will last until the 30th December when they will be reviewed.
Boris said, “I know how disappointing this will be, but we have said throughout this pandemic that we must and we will be guided by the science.”
“When the science changes, we must change our response. When the virus changes its methods of attack we must change our method of defence and as your prime minister I sincerely believe there is no alternative open to me.”
