As if the tiers and rules weren’t confusing enough, a Lidl store in Hampshire is right in the middle of two tiers!
Located in Portchester, the shop is on the border of Fareham (Tier 2 and Portsmouth (Tier 4), with a sign marking the border halfway down the store.
Because of this, many shoppers are travelling between the two tiers when in the store!
Under government guidelines, tier 4 residents are being told not to leave their homes and to avoid avoid crossing between tiers.
However, local police said on Monday (December 21) they will not be preventing tier 4 shoppers from entering the Portchester Lidl store, but would act when there are blatant breaches of coronavirus rules.
Hampshire Constabulary assistant chief constable, Maggie Blyth, also said in a statement: “I’d urge people to take personal responsibility over the next few weeks.
“Just because you can travel to different areas doesn’t mean that you have to. With the new Tier 4 restrictions in place there are restrictions on leaving home which people should be taking account of.”
