Comedy Central are gearing up for the release of their new series, Drunk History: Black Stories, and have treated us to a teaser trailer in the process.
Hosted by the multitalented Rapman, Drunk History: Black Stories will be a six-part series focusing on Black icons and their cultural influence with some big stars telling tell dramatised stories while drinking.
The likes of Scorcher, Zeze Millz, Leticia Hector, Lola Jagun and Femi Oyeniran will star as re-enactors in stories narrated by Amma Asante, Jamali Maddix, Kevin ‘KG’ Garry and Travis Jay. We will also see appearances from Tom Moutchi, TY Logan, Desiree Burch and more.
Among the featured stories are ‘Sons of Africa’ which follows an 18th century abolitionist group in Britain that campaigned to end the African slave trade; ‘Mary Seacole’ which is about a British Jamaican nurse who set up a hotel on the frontlines of the Crimean War in 1853 and nursed soldiers back to health; and ‘Len Johnson’, a UK boxer denied the chance to compete for a championship in Great Britain because of the colour bar.
“My entire career has been focused on telling authentic, Black stories,” said Rapman. “I’m excited to be a part of a show created by Black people where viewers can be entertained while learning about these unsung Black heroes.”
Executive producer, Collins Harris, added: “We really wanted to take the platform, which is popular, it’s a recognized platform and use it as a model to celebrate these histories.
“You know we’re really raising a glass to folks who deserve to be acknowledged.”
Drunk History: Black Stories premieres on April 15 across Comedy Central UK.’s digital platforms on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram.
