This July sees the launch of a unique multi-sports and entertainment event celebrating and promoting Afro Culture. Afro Unites’ event is set to take place on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th of July at the Copper Box Arena at the Olympic Park. The weekend will involve basketball and football charity tournaments with high profile athletes alongside live music on each day.
The musical performances will be a celebration of Afro Culture through both UK and international artists. Saturday will see the likes of Wiley, Chip, Akala, Donaeo, Kyla and Crazy Cousinz take to the stage, while on Sunday, Fuse ODG, Stylo G, Ghetts, Mr Eazi and Moelogo finish the celebration. Kiss FM’s Dixon Brothers will also have sets on both days.
The football tournament will be hosted by Mandem on the Wall and the basketball by Eddie Kadi. The competition will involve four male and four female teams for football and basketball. Each team will be playing for a designated Afro Unites Charity, and Afro Unites will donate £1000 to each winning team for their charity. The football tournament will take place on the Saturday, with the basketball following after on Sunday.
The organisation is supporting charities which impact the African Community; BBC Children in Need, Plan, SANE, National AIDS Trust and Diabetes UK.
