AFTV’s Claude Callegari has passed away, it has been announced in a statement.
News of Claude’s passing yesterday (March 29) was confirmed in a statement from Twitter account @ClaudeBanstas, who received permission from Claude’s father to share the news.
“We can’t believe we are writing this, with permission from Claude’s father, it is with great sadness and a broken heart that we have to announce that our dear friend and legend Claude sadly passed away yesterday afternoon 29th March,” the statement reads.
“We ask that you please respect the privacy of Claude, his family and friends and be respectful at this extremely sad time.
“RIP dear friend, gone but never be forgotten. Gooner for life. Terry & Diesel.”
Making regular appearances on Arsenal Fan TV, lifelong Gunners fan Claude became a popular figure in the football world with his passionate comments and his catchphrase “It’s time to go!”.
After being involved in a controversial incident last year with Tottenham player Heung-Min Son, Claude was removed from the channel indefinitely.
Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell was one of the first to pay tribute to Claude on social media following news of his passing.
Campbell wrote: “Deepest condolences to Claude’s Father and family. I honestly am shocked and can’t believe it! May he R.I.E.P.”
