Akon has now announced that he was secured a $6 billion construction contract to begin building a futuristic city in Senegal.

The mega Senegalese-American star confirmed the news on Instagram, writing “KE International awarded US $6 Billion construction contract for Akon City” alongside a link containing more information.

Earlier this month, the construction contract was awarded to a U.S-based consulting and engineering firm, KE, who generated $ 4 billion of the $6 billion from investors.

The first phase of Akon City is expected to be complete by 2023 and will see the construction of roads, a shopping centre, a hospital, a school, a power plant and a police station. The city will also include parks, universities, a stadium and an industrial complex.

Phase 2 – which is slated to start in 2024 and end in 2029 – and will take place when the city is ready to introduce Akon’s AKOIN cryptocurrency.

News of Akon City’s huge construction contract comes months after Akon reached an agreement with Senegal to establish the city.
