The singer had previously revealed his plans to create Akon City in 2018, saying he planned to build the futuristic city on 2000 acres of land which was gifted to him by the President of Senegal, Macky Sall.

“It’s a ten-year building block so we’re doing it in stages,” Akon said during a chat with Nick Cannon on Power 106 back in December, adding “We started construction in March and stage two is going to be 2025.”

Akon reportedly plans to build in the village of Mbodiene where the city will champion climate-conscious strategies to its everyday running. It’s also believed the city will trade exclusively with Akon’s digital currency, Akoin.
