Alicai Harley is unquestionably one of the brightest shining stars in UK Dancehall & R&B and in a new documentary-series entitled Seven, Alicai sits down with Jay London to discuss the plights and procurements of a young up-and-coming musician.
Following the success of tracks like “Tek It To Dem Freestyle” & “Gold”, as well as a huge guest feature on Dizzee Rascal’s E3AF album, Alicai’s has firmly set her sights on the top of the UK charts. Having already racked up over two million streams on just these two releases alone, the self titled “Hot Shot” of UK dancehall/pop fusion is certainly living up to the moniker.
In this honest and open conversation, Alicai confronts and reflects on the challenges that have hindered her rise to stardom stating,”I felt like growing up, all of the odds were often against me”. Alicai also offers us a unique insight into the daily grind of aspiring MC’s as the she recounts the long journeys between open-mic nights across London & Birmingham.
It quickly becomes apparent that Alicai’s road to the top of UK Dancehall has by no means been an easy one or one built on sturdy foundations. Rather, her path is one that has been forged by hard work, consistency and a dogmatic pursuit of the next banger.
