Due to a split between Sony and Disney, Spider-Man is no longer a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) but we could be seeing the web-slinging superhero on our screens again very soon.
Tony Vinciquerra, Sony Pictures’ CEO, recently revealed the company’s plan to release a Spider-Man spin-off series.
Speaking at the Variety Entertainment & Technology Summit, Vinciquerra let slip that there are at least “five or six” television programmes set in the Spider-Man universe. He also set out Sony’s plans to release a sequel to Venom.
Vinciquerra doesn’t seem too concerned about Spidey’s departure from MCU, telling Comicbook.com “Spider-Man was fine before the event movies, did better with the event movies, and now that we have our own universe, he will play off the other characters as well.”
Although Spider-Man is out of the MCU, it looks like it definitely isn’t the end of the superhero as Tony Vinciquerra’s recent comments suggest we could be seeing him a lot more in the future.
