Amazon have shown off their latest project they’re launching, and it looks set to change the way we do our shopping forever.
They’ve premiered Amazon Go, a real life shop where customers can physically walk in and browse the shelves. The biggest twist here though, is that customers don’t have to buy anything at all, per se…
At least, not as we know it. The shop is filled with a variety of new technologies, which enable shoppers to go in, find what they want and head straight out the door with it.
Upon entry, shoppers have to electronically sign in on their Amazon app on a smart phone, which will take care of any transactions and payments that need to be made. Once they’ve done so, everything else is done automatically.
The company have said on their website, “Our checkout-free shopping experience is made possible by the same types of technologies used in self-driving cars: computer vision, sensor fusion, and deep learning.
“Our Just Walk Out technology automatically detects when products are taken from or returned to the shelves and keeps track of them in a virtual cart,” it continues. “When you’re done shopping, you can just leave the store. Shortly after, we’ll charge your Amazon account and send you a receipt.”
Amazon Go was conceived four years ago, with the aim to create a checkout-less shop. Judging by the launch, it looks like they may have succeeded.
