It was only a matter of time until Amazon wanted in on the AirPod market.

The e-commerce giant is ready to release wireless earbuds to rival Apple’s AirPods and their version is due to drop in the second half of this year. The plans form part of the Seattle based company’s plan to try new ways to advance its already popular virtual assistant Alexa.

The earphones, with the intention of looking and acting in the same format as the Apple AirPods, will be designed to sit inside the user’s ears without clips or wire.

The new Amazon product is expected to allow the user’s voice to dictate music, order goods and ask for weather details and other information whilst on the go, all by summoning Alexa.

The usual price for the Apple AirPods is £159 however as Amazon usually undercuts their competition, their version is expected to be cheaper.
