Fresh off the release of the latest instalment in the franchise with God of War:Ragnarok, and after reports came out earlier this year that Amazon was considering adapting the Sony games, it seems the live-action adaptation for the incredibly popular video game series has just been given the green light by Prime Video and is now officially in the works.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show has been in development since March and instead of focusing on the ultra-violent Greek-mythology-inspired adventures of Kratos’ first three games, the series will follow Kratos’ years in Midgard after becoming a father to Atreus as per 2018’s God of War.

The show’s official description teases its plot as follows: “When his beloved wife dies, Kratos sets off on a dangerous journey with his estranged son to spread her ashes from the highest peak – his wife’s final wish. Kratos soon realises the journey is an epic quest in disguise, one which will test the bonds between father and son, and force Kratos to battle new gods and monsters for the fate of the world.”

The streaming studio which has already seen huge successes with its comic book adaptations of The Boys and Invincible is gradually stepping into the video game sphere.
