It has now been announced that Anthony Joshua will defend his world heavyweight titles against Oleksandr Usyk at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this September.
AJ confirmed news of the bout by sharing the details on Twitter this afternoon (20th July).
The fight between AJ and Usyk will take place on Saturday 25th September and will be shown live on Sky Sports Box Office.
AJ had hoped to go head to head with Tyson Fury in a clash this summer but plans for their fight collapsed after Deontay Wilder’s arbitration case ordered that the Gypsy King must face the American for a third time.
Usyk is AJ’s mandatory challenger after emerging from cruiserweight as the undisputed king.
“The date is set and we are fully locked in,” said Joshua. “September 25, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, I put it all on the line again and it’s time to defend my crown. We are two Olympic gold medallists who have fought our way to the top and never avoided challenges.
“The stadium is exceptional, the atmosphere will be electric, I’m honoured to be the first person to fight in such an awe-inspiring venue. The stage is set and I am ready to handle business.”
