Fresh off the release of the long-awaited seriesTop Boy, lead actor Ashley Walters joined Charlie Sloth on Beats 1 to speak on the cultural impact and relevance the show has had, whilst also revealing why co-producer Drake didn’t land a role nor a cameo in the revived British series.
The show, based in Hackney, portrays the lifestyle of contemporary London. First aired to Channel 4 in 2011, the show saw an unfortunate axe before being rebooted a matter of years later thanks to Netflix and Drake’s passion for the culture. Walters describes that there was talk of the Canadian rapper being part of the show, mentioning “we discussed it” before shortly revealing Drizzy even asked Walters on what he thought.
In addition to discussing Drake’s role throughout the third series, Charlie Sloth also utilises the time with Walters to choose a few tracks in which synonymously reflect the show. The brief but insightful chat delves into overlapping topics and who better than Ashley Walters himself to bring good energy and enthusiasm to celebrate the return of Top Boy alongside Charlie Sloth.
