The biggest film of the year so far is Avengers: Endgame and it looks set to potentially topple Avatar and be crowned the biggest film of all time.
James Cameron’s Avatar has been sitting on the top spot of the box office highest grossing film list since its release in 2009.
Many believed that the MCU’s latest film would be able to top the list with ease, however over the last couple of weeks progress has slowed down due to competition of other releases. This has caused Avengers: Endgame to sit in second place, $45 million dollars off from being crowned the highest grossing film of all time with an overall total of $2,743,413,993 so far.
In an effort to combat this, it has been announced the film will be re-released next weekend with additional content to help the push as well as further building anticipation for Marvel’s next film Spiderman: Far From Home which is released on the 2nd July 2019.
The president of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige said it’s “not an extended cut, but there will be a version going into theatres with a bit of a marketing push with a few new things at the end of the movie,” explaining: “If you stay and watch the movie, after the credits, there’ll be a deleted scene, a little tribute, and a few surprises. Which will be next weekend.”
It worth noting that it will still face heavy competition but this re-release could be enough to end Avatar’s decade long run.
Will you be going for a trip to the cinema again for an Avengers: Endgame re-release?
