To the casual fan, it might seem that the world of UK rap is limited to distinct subgenres. In reality, these subgenres only scratch the surface in describing the wealth of talent that is yet to be fully discovered.
Mr Jukes and Barney the Artist are prime examples of authentic musicians, with their music being described as “jazz infused hip hop but with a London feel” and it’s not hard to see why.
Barney grew up in Forest Gate, whilst Mr Jukes (real name Jack Steadman) hails from Crouch End. The sum of combining their own unique London experiences with their eclectic influences is this completely distinct sound; a sound that reflects the ever-changing landscape of modern hip hop.
Eagle-eyed fans will notice none other than Tom Misch in this live performance who supplies effortless flair on the guitar, leading exquisite licks (much to the delight of Barney) and offering a slightly different flavour to the original song.
Complemented with Mr Jukes on the bass and a vinyl scratcher, this performance is simply just good vibes and is sure to leave a smile on your face.
Mr Jukes & Barney Artist are dropping their new album, The Locket tomorrow (6th August) and if this performance is anything to go by, we can expect more feel-good moments combined with elegant musical ability.
