The Big Music Project has announced some massive plans for the next two years, aiming to help out young people in music or creative industries.
They will be addressing a lack of diversity in those aforementioned industries, as well as youth unemployment. In 2016, there are currently over 627,000 unemployed young people in the UK.
The two year plan will focus on on providing music and creative industry internships, work placements and skills training for young people across the UK, particularly those who are not in full time education or employment.
By 2018, The Big Music Project will have;
- Trained and developed over 1,000 young people, mainly from disadvantaged backgrounds, through UK Youth’s Music Hubs
- Trained 1,000 NEETs (not in education or employed) through Music Potential
- 400 work opportunities listed on the website
- 20 more funded internships across the UK, all paying local living wage
- Inspired thousands through educational content on the website and Master Classes
In the past year they have provided 22 internships for young people, including at companies like Universal Music and Songkick. Ant Payne, a presenter at Capital, said, “The Big Music Project is providing young people with incredible opportunities to get work experience and showcase their talent. Sometimes it’s just a case of getting your foot in the door somewhere and that’s exactly what this project is doing for young people, giving them the confidence and networking potential to pursue their passion.”
