Several years ago, July 17 was declared World Emoji Day in honour of the popular calendar emoji and this year Apple have decided to celebrate the bizarre appreciation day by previewing the upcoming emoji set.
News about the brand new emojis was released by Apple’s current CEO, Tim Cook, in a tweet earlier on in the day. “Happy #WorldEmojiDay!” Cook wrote, “We’ve got some new ones to show you, coming later this year!”. Tim Cook’s tweet was accompanied by several emojis and a GIF which teased some of the new emojis Apple users can expect to see very soon.
Among the new emojis shown in the GIF are a bearded man, a woman with a headscarf, a breastfeeding woman, a sandwich, a coconut and several other characters and objects.
At present, there isn’t an official date for the release of the new emojis but we can expect the release of the new pack to coincide with the unveiling of the iPhone 8 this autumn.
