Nine Black Lives Matters campaigners have managed to shutdown London City Airport after chaining themselves together on the runway.

In a series of tweets, the equal-rights movement said, “By 2050 there will be 200 million climate refugees. Black people are the first to die, not the first to fly, in this racist climate crisis.”

Flights in and out of the airport have been disrupted since 5:40 this morning and several of the protesters have now been arrested.

This isn’t the first time that Black Lives Matter UK protesters have made a point by disrupting travel. On 5th August as part of their #SHUTDOWN campaign, they caused quite the frenzy at Heathrow airport.

Their latest stunt has gained both support and criticism online and in the wider mainstream press.
