16 August 2019

As Blade Brown releases the fourth instalment of his Bags and Boxes project today, GRM Daily celebrates this long-awaited release with a list of 11 classic Blade Brown tunes you should have on your playlist! The south Londoner is a significant player in the UK trap rap game and we wish to pay homage! In no particular order, this is our collection of essential Blade Brown hits!

“Sink a Boat”
(featuring Giggs and Fem Fel)

This list would not complete without this legendary collaboration between two of south London’s most talented artists. The gritty track still has replay value over a decade later! “Sink a Boat” was a key component of the joint project Hollowman Meetz Blade.

“Bags and Boxes”

The first Bags and Boxes mixtape birthed this hit named after the project. It quickly became a hood classic and cemented Blade’s position as an up and coming trap rapper. The track signalled the beginning of new era and still holds weight to this day.

GRM Daily was the channel to upload the visuals to this elite track produced by Carns Hill. The skippy instrumental complimented the hard-hitting lyrics put forward by a young Blade, and the hook makes this tune a renowned hit. We suggest new listeners check it out below!

“Showtime” (featuring Mental K and SDG)

“Showtime” was a jumpy anthem which provided listeners with a new Blade Brown sound. The UK scene was weary of autotune at the time, but the trio used it perfectly to create a street banger. Blade was responsible for the world-class chorus, whilst fellow south Londoners Mental K and SDG added creative verses. Check out the visuals via GRM Daily’s YouTube channel!

“Break Bread”

“Break Bread” was a standout track on Bags and Boxes 2, the second instalment of the series. The title and themes of the track relate to sharing knowledge, belongings and assets with those who you trust. This moral is derived from Jesus’ Last Supper. The visual encompasses such themes, presenting Blade and his associates living a lavish lifestyle together. “Break Bread”  is often seen as one of Blade’s underrated tunes.

“Bags and Boxes 3 Intro”

This track was fully representative of Blade’s talent, becoming a UK trap rap classic. The anthem was a perfect opener to the third instalment of the Bags and Boxes series that saw features from Youngs Teflon, Skepta, Skrapz and more. Blade embedded numerous punchlines and classic lyrics in this hit, with a humorous extended metaphor referring to scales. The album was released independently on 31st of October 2014, but still holds significance almost five years later! Expect to see more tracks from this project below.

“Money Songs”

Money Songs proves that Blade is not short of money, once again confirming the validity of his music. The visual sees Blade cruising through London and the tune acts as a perfect motivational track for those who want to get their money long!

“Cold Summer”

The oxymoronic title of this 2014 track perfectly summarises the content of the cinematic visual below. “Cold Summer” was taken from Bags and Boxes 3. Blade makes it clear that he really lives what he raps about, flying out to shoot this video documenting his lifestyle and ambitions. Five years later, the lyrics remain relevant.

“Hard Times”

Safone took a trip down to London to create this upbeat anthem with Blade Brown. The pair distance themselves from average trap rappers, bringing real heat to the track, representing the best of Birmingham and London. The lyrics focus on their respective paths to music coming from the roads, referencing “white parcels” and “chart rhymes”. We hope to see a similar collaboration in the near future!

“Drug Dealer” (featuring Tiggs Da Author)

For this hit, Blade flew out to Miami to create a movie with one of the best UK camera operators, Frost. The wordplay put forward by Blade is perfectly combined with melodic vocals from Tiggs Da Author. “Drug Dealer” is a must-have playlist track for all Blade fans. The visual features cameo appearances from Floyd Mayweather and Meek Mill, with a view count of over 1 million.

“12 Summers”

Cartier watches were thrown in the bin by stressed owners after this track. Blade introduced a fresh flow for this fast-paced instrumental, proving his versatility. Taken from his latest release Bags and Boxes 4, this tune will not disappoint. Take in the California visuals via GRM Daily!
