Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced that England can move into the next stage of his roadmap out of lockdown next week.

The Prime Minister made the announcement at a Downing Street news briefing this evening (April 5).

“We see nothing in our present data that makes us think that we’ll have to deviate from the roadmap,” Boris Johnson said.

“We’re setting out our roadmap, and we’re sticking with it,” he added.

The announcement from Mr Johnson means that from April 12:

  •  Non-essential shops, including hairdressers and nail salons, will reopen
  • Hospitality venues, such as pubs and restaurants, will be able to open for outdoor service without a curfew.
  • Overnight stays away from home in England will be permitted and self-contained accommodation can also reopen – but to members of the same household or support bubbles only
  • Gyms, libraries and community centres will also reopen
  • The majority of outdoor settings and attractions can reopen, including outdoor hospitality, zoos, theme parks, drive-in cinemas and drive-in performances
  • Outdoor gatherings will still remain limited to groups of six or two households
  • Indoor gatherings are still only permitted between members of the same household or people within a support bubble
  • All children will be able to attend any indoor children’s activity, including sport, regardless of circumstance
  • Funerals can continue with up to 30 attendees and weddings, outdoor receptions, and commemorative events will be able to take place with up to 15 attendees (in premises that are permitted to open)

People are still being encouraged to work from home where they can.

International holidays are still illegal, with Boris Johnson adding that it’s still too early to say whether people will be able to go on holiday abroad this summer.
