The UK’s prime minister Boris Johnson has now tested positive for coronavirus.
Johnson broke the news on Twitter, writing: “Over the last 24 hours I have developed mild symptoms and tested positive for coronavirus.
“I am now self-isolating, but I will continue to lead the government’s response via video-conference as we fight this virus. Together we will beat this. #StayHomeSaveLives.”
Boris Johnson has said he is experiencing mild symptoms of the infection and is now self-isolating in Downing Street. He is still set to manage the government’s response to the coronavirus pandemic while recovering.
News of Johnson’s diagnosis comes as the number of COVID-19 cases in the UK reached 11,816, while the number of deaths related to the infection currently stands at 578.
