Prime minister Boris Johnson has now confirmed the UK has now past the peak of the coronavirus pandemic.

Johnson made the announcement during the government’s daily briefing today (April 30), saying: “I can confirm today that for the first time we are past the peak of this disease.”

He added:
“We have come through the peak. We have come under what could have been vast huge Alpine tunnel and now we see the sunlight in the pasture ahead of us.

“It is vital we do not now lose control and run into a second and bigger mountain.”

Lockdown is still in place at present but Boris Johnson did add that
the government will announce a comprehensive plan to ease down lockdown restrictions next week.

In relation to the public’s response to lockdown measures, Boris Johnson said “your effort and your sacrifice is working”.

Boris Johnson’s announcement in today’s daily briefing comes after the death toll for the virus in the UK reached 26,711 today.
