A brewery in Copenhagen has started brewing a new, eco friendly beer. It’s secret ingredient? Human piss.

Danish microbrewery Nørrebro Bryghus collected 50,000 litres of urine from the port-a-loos at Roskilde music festival and used it to fertilise their barley crops, which is one of the key ingredients in beer. They’ve poured enough pee on fields to produce around 60,000 bottles of the drink.

Denmark’s Agriculture and Food Council, who fully approve of the initiative, have dubbed the process “beercycling”.

Okay so you’re not actually drinking pee straight from the bottle, but there’s definitely a lot more urine in it than your average tinnie. Hell, the company are even referring to it as “Pisner”.

The company’s Chief Executive Henrik Vang said, “When the news that we had started brewing the Pisner came out, a lot of people thought we were filtering the urine to put it directly in the beer and we had a good laugh about that.”
