As the details for the 2020 Brit Awards ceremony have been revealed, so have a whole lot of changes for the ceremony.
Due to take place on 18th February next year as the 40th annual show, the Brits have confirmed the award list has been reduced to just nine.
Beyond the reduction of awards, other major changes including the renaming of the ‘Critics Choice Award’ to the ‘Rising Star Award.’ As well as the name change, the winner of the said award will also get a performance slot on the show for the first time in forty years.
With further name changes, ‘Best Breakthrough Act’ will now be referred to as ‘Best New Artist’ while ‘Best British Single” will become ‘Song of the Year.’ Awards will also be dished out for best male and female solo artist, album of the year, international male and female solo artists and best group.
The changes also see the scrapping of the audience vote, as in 2020 all awards will be in the hands of an “official voting academy” made up of 1,200 experts within the industry.
Furthermore, artists will be granted full creative control over their Brit performances as the organisers have insisted that they will “hand the stage to the artists booked to perform on the night without imposing any creative limitations.”
