Cadbury’s have today announced that the price of the much-loved Freddo bar will drop to 25p.
Following a rapid increase of the price of one of the nation’s favourite confectionary treats, Cadbury’s made the decision to reduce the current price of 30p to 25p after many were outraged by what seemed like a sudden price inflation.
As many came remember, the chocolate bar used to retail at a very affordable 10p, but in just a matter of eighteen years, the price has risen by a massive 200 percent, now selling for 30p.
Speaking to The Independent, Cadbury’s said, “We’re pleased to announce that Freddo will become available for 25p once again from March onwards, across price marked packs in independent retailers.”
Continuing to say, “This marks the start of a ribbeting year for your favourite frog in 2018, as we launch an exciting promotion with Merlin as well as lots more froggy fun to come later in the year.”
Whilst a sixteen percent price drop of a product would usually result in a decrease of product size, Cadbury’s have confirmed that the chocolate bar will in fact remain at it’s usual size of 18g and will contain the same ingredients.
Although all seems good with this news, the cheaper bars will only be available at independent retailers such as corner shops while chain supermarkets and retailers will still carry the 30p price tag.
The past few years have proven to be very difficult for confectionary suppliers, with Terry’s Chocolate Orange being the most affected product, with the price increasing by 36.2 percent since 2016.
