Celebrated actor Chadwick Boseman has died of cancer aged 43.
The star was diagnosed with colon cancer four years ago and privately battled the disease.
Chadwick passed away surrounded by family who said in a statement posted to social media, “A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much. From Marshall to Da 5 Bloods, August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and several more – all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy. It was the honor of his career to bring King T’Challa to life in Black Panther.”
Black Panther marked a historic and cinematic moment in black cinema – with the movie significantly making history at the Box Office with its predominantly black cast, black director and its billion-dollar takings.
Along with Black Panther, Boseman also wowed viewers in films such as 42 and Get On Up.
Our thoughts are with Chadwick’s friends, family, fans and his co-stars during this unsettling time.
