UEFA have finally announced the return date for the 19/20 Champions League season, while also announcing a ‘final eight’ mini tournament.
Releasing a statement on their website, UEFA confirmed the round of 16 games will continue between 7th-8th August, before the quarter-finals take place between 12th-15th August in Lisbon.
The semi-finals – due to be held between 18th-19th August – will also take place in Lisbon before the highly-anticipated final takes place in the Portuguese capital on August 23rd.
The European body also confirmed the quarter and semi-finals will be held as one-leg games instead of the traditional two-leg format, making the Champions League a 8-team, straight knockout tournament when the quarter-finals commence on August 12.
A decision will be made by mid-July as to whether fans will be able to attend any of the games in Lisbon.
It was also announced by UEFA that the last 8 of the Europa League will take place in Germany – across Duisburg, Gelsenkirchen, Frankfurt and Cologne – between 10th-21st August.
