Is Charlamagne tha God leaving The Breakfast Club? The internet thinks so.
The New York-based radio show started in 2010 and has since become an integral part of hip-hop culture. Appearing on The Breakfast Club was symbolic and it signified acceptance into the culture for an artist.
Charlamagne and his co-hosts Angela Yee and DJ Envy are seen as gatekeepers and without them, the format of the show would change dramatically.
Charlamagne is infamous for his trolling nature and brutally honest approach.
The media personality also tries to appreciate music from other countries too – he recently interviewed Stormzy and the two had an in-depth chat.
After revealing that his contract ends in December and saying that he has “mentally quit” the show, it is being reported that The Breakfast Club will be Charlamagne free in the new year.
A source told Page Six, “He loves working for IHeartRadio but he is contemplating his next move. He’s not sure what he is going to do. There are a lot of potential deals in the air, and he just wants to keep his options open and think strategically.”
Joe Budden, a friend of Charlamagne’s and frequent collaborator, discussed the rumours during an episode of his podcast and revealed that we might need to adjust to the idea of a new era for Charlamagne and subsequently, hip-hop culture.
Joe said, “I don’t feel like us or anyone else has paid any mind to what the landscape looks like if Charlamagne was to indeed leave The Breakfast Club. As of late, it’s something I have been paying a lot of attention to. I think that it dramatically changes the course of things”.
