Superstar DJ Charlie Sloth is currently trending online after storming on stage at the Audio & Radio Industry Awards (ARIAS) last night.
1Xtra’s Rap Show with Charlie Sloth was nominated alongside Soundtracking with Edith Bowman for Best Specialist Music Show at the ARIAS. As Edith was announced as winner of the award, Charlie stormed on stage and grabbed the mic in an ordeal being described as Kayne-esque.
Seemingly annoyed at the result, Charlie Sloth went on a rant whilst on stage saying: “Edith Bowman, F*ck your life” and later “I just wanna say BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra, Saturday night Rap Show. F*ck your life. God bless.”

Charlie Sloth is renowned for breaking new rappers on his Fire In The Booth segment and has been a key figure in the radio industry for years. Many turning their heads at the announcement of his move to Beats 1 after 10 years at BBC Radio 1. Subsequently he has been the recipient of several awards and acclaim, the GRM Rated Radio DJ of the Year being one.
Ironically, shortly after BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra received the award for Station of The Year. The stations controller Ben Cooper accepted the award and took the time to apologise for Sloth’s behaviour: “I’d just like to say Charlie Sloth has left the building and is leaving Radio 1 & 1Xtra. Apologies.”
This unexpected turn of events definitely made for an eventful award show.
