RA has proven himself to be one of the most gifted minds capable of elite storytelling in the UK. What you choose as your prime evidence to prove this assertion is up to you; but the levels set by the “The Convo” series and “The Wrap Up” immediately comes to mind. Both of these series illustrated his ability to visualise and compile lyrics in a way which not only sounds good but comes together to represent a wider story and/or theme.
“Chino” sees RA partner with arguably the forefather of UK rap cinematics, Kevin Hudson. This collaboration is predictably, to great effect. Every shot is clean and complex, every song choice is considered, and every line of dialogue feels like it has purpose.
Indeed, “Chino” is the latest in a long line of independently produced UK films centered around exploring the real people who become involved in the perils of life on the roads. Only time will tell if this film earns its place on the figurative Mount Rushmore of UK street productions, but from our first watch there is certainly a compelling case.
