Coronation Street actor Marc Anwar has been sacked for posting inappropriate and “racially offensive tweets” towards Indians, says ITV.

The company also states the 45-year-old, Pakistan-born star would not be returning to the show “with immediate effect”.

The tweets sent out on his private account were allegedly aimed at Indians over Kashmir; the Indian army said a gunfight broke out which lead it to shoot and kill a militant in the region.

Some of his Twitter rant read, “Ban #india movies in #PakistanisLeaveIndia. B*****ds p**s drinking #c**ts.”

“Why the F**k do #pakistaniartists want work in #f*** face #india, do you love money so much.”

ITV have made a statement about the issue saying, “We are deeply shocked by the entirely unacceptable, racially offensive comments made on Twitter by Marc Anwar.

“We have talked to Marc and, as a consequence of his comments, he will not be returning to Coronation Street with immediate effect.”
