The Moderna vaccine has become the third coronavirus jab to be approved for use in the UK.

The Department for Health confirmed today (January 8) the U.S-based company’s vaccine has been approved for use by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).

7 million doses of the jab had already been ordered by the UK but now the government have put in an order for an extra 10 million for the jab, which was shown to have 94% efficacy in final trials.

The Moderna vaccine will reportedly be available for use by March.

Its approval comes after jabs from Oxford and Pfizer-BioNTech received the greenlight to be used in the UK last month and are already being rolled out.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock described the Moderna jab as “another weapon in our arsenal to tame this awful disease”.
