It has been revealed that Prince Charles has tested positive for coronavirus.

The news was announced in a statement from the British royal residence Clarence House, saying: “The Prince of Wales has tested positive for coronavirus.

“He has been displaying mild symptoms but otherwise remains in good health and has been working from home throughout the last few days as usual.

“The Duchess of Cornwall has also been tested but does not have the virus. In accordance with government and medical advice, the Prince and the Duchess are now self-isolating at home in Scotland.

“The tests were carried out by the NHS in Aberdeenshire where they met the criteria required for testing.”

“It is not possible to ascertain from whom the Prince caught the virus owing to the high number of engagements he carried out in his public role during recent weeks.”

News of Prince Charles diagnosis comes a day after the government launched an appeal for 250,000 volunteers to help the NHS deal with the coronavirus outbreak.

Since then, over 170,000 people have signed up to offer their help to the NHS, according to GoodSAM who is coordinating the response.

A number of tasks will be required by the volunteers including picking up essential supplies for those in quarantine and transporting healthy patients home from hospitals.

Alongside the permanent NHS staff, the volunteers will play a crucial role in dealing with the coronavirus pandemic which has resulted in 422 deaths in the UK at present.
