A production keeper for the Aberdeen Crown Office who was responsible for storage of court case evidence has been jailed for more than three years after stealing £147,000 worth of drugs, and £90,000 over a period of nine years.
Various evidence was found at the Aberdeen home of Katherine Vaughan and the Edinburgh High Court heard how she had purchased luxury items such as expensive jewellery and make-up.
The accused is said to have been diagnosed with PTSD, depression and anxiety, with judge Lord Beckett taking her medical history under consideration whilst stating that the crime committed was an “extraordinary breach of trust.”
Whilst reading out the verdict, he told her: “Given the gravity of this crime, there is no suitable alternative to imprisonment. I consider it necessary to punish you and to seek to deter persons, as you were, in such a position of trust.”
